In 1915, Ben Many and George Bishop Sr. started Western Waterproofing. They conducted business out of a
small office in St. Louis, Missouri, and began with little more than their own strong work ethic and the
idea that treating customers and employees fairly would pay off in the long run.
Below-grade waterproofing comprised the majority of projects in those early years. But as building
techniques grew more sophisticated, the services offered by Western became more complex and technically
challenging. And through the manpower shortages of two world wars, economic downturns and changes in the
construction industry, the company continued to grow.
Western expanded services beyond the St. Louis area, opening offices throughout the country and acquiring
other restoration companies. Today, Western has over 35 offices offering a scope of services that has
grown beyond what either founder could have imagined in 1915.
But the basis for Western's success is firmly grounded in what Ben Many and George Bishop believed: "Good
people, working hard together to service our customers' interest, add up to continuing success."
